Music of Matter

The preferred materials of the artist Natalya Stepanyuk are ceramics and bronze - universal and ancient materials - they have perfect plastic properties, and the nature of the surface treatment enriches the impression with a variety of changeable pictorial effects. The organization of the composition of works is determined by their emotional and semantic expressiveness. They either energetically “crashe into space” with dramatic tension, or with “royal grandeur” they gently and gradually float into it. Features of these dynamic properties support a variety of material surface effects. Areas of polished, brushed and patinated bronze, colored glazed fragments of ceramics - shimmer with subtle nuances of color and light, filling the forms with lyrical-tender or heroic-dramatic energy.

Flat, smooth and rough-ribbed fragments, visually indicating the results of the struggle between the external and internal structures of the structure, complement the various variations of expression. All this forms the image of a “sounding” space and naturally occurring musical associations complement the effects of influence.

The attractive power of Natalia Stepanyuk’s sculptures lies in the light, color and tactile features of the surfaces, in the author’s plasticity, the variety of perspective impressions, in the inexhaustibility of symbolic associations and semantic shades that reflect her life experience and creative method.
