The work of sculptor Natalya Stepanyuk is both cutting-edge modern and archaic. It is no coincidence that she works mainly with such ancient materials as clay and metal, stone and wood. From modernity - improvisation (which is reflected in the names of works or series - “Improvisation”, “Episode”, “Flow”), a pronounced, recognizable author’s style. From the archaic - a gravitation towards archetypes, myth and even what lies deeper than myth and archetype - natural, elemental forms: its art objects are winged, ovoid, spherical, drop-shaped
The project “Fragments of Memory”, according to the author, explores “the awareness and acceptance of various episodes of lost or future memories as a single whole.” The metaphor for this “light and heavy” process are objects with wings, embodying both the intensity of muscular effort and the weightlessness of flight, and spherical, ovoid objects, striving to absorb and, closing in themselves, to unite contradictions.
